Library information and documentation play a crucial role in supporting research and development. The Library serves as a valuable resource for researchers by providing access to a wide range of scholarly materials, including books, journals, proceedings, and other relevant sources of information.

Through its information resources and support services, the Library facilitates access to knowledge, supports research activities, preserves valuable information, and promotes the sharing of resources among researchers.

The Library comprises five major units:

Library Staff Strength

The Library has a total staff strength of nineteen (19), comprising librarians, library officers, and administrative staff.

The Library and its information and documentation services support research development in several key areas:

Provides researchers with access to relevant scholarly resources, including books, journals, proceedings, and other sources of information.

2. Research Support Services

Provides information and documentation services that support researchers in their research activities.

Supports the preservation and archiving of valuable research information and documentation for continued access and use.

Supports collaboration and networking by facilitating the sharing of information and research resources.

Achievements of the NRCRI Library

Publications

The Information and Documentation Department of NRCRI, Umudike, has compiled and published a number of research information resources, including:

• Sweet Potato in Nigeria: An Abstracts of Published Journals and Books on Sweet Potato in Nigeria (1986–2016) — Book of Abstracts.
• Yam Research in Nigeria (1990–2002).
• Cassava Production, Processing and Marketing (1980–2005) — Book of Abstracts.
• Abstracts of Publications on Yam by NRCRI Scientists (1990–2024) — currently in the process of publication as a Book of Abstracts.
  
  

Production of NRCRI Gazettes

The Library Department has continuously produced the Institute Gazette since 1998 to date. The gazettes produced include Gazette Nos. 1–8, with copies maintained by the Library.
