PLANNING, MONITORING & EVALUATION
The Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation (PME) Program at the National Root Crops Research Institute (NRCRI), Umudike serves as a strategic backbone for ensuring that all research, extension, and development activities are effectively designed, implemented, and assessed.
Planning:
The planning component focuses on aligning research projects with national agricultural priorities, particularly in root and tuber crop development. This involves:
- Identifying priority research areas in cassava, yam, sweet potato, cocoyam, and other root crops.
- Developing project proposals with clear objectives, timelines, and budgets.
- Coordinating with stakeholders, including farmers, policymakers, and partner institutions, to ensure relevance and impact.
Monitoring:
Monitoring ensures that projects are executed according to plan and within allocated resources. Key activities include:
- Tracking progress against set milestones and deliverables.
- Conducting regular field visits to research stations and farmer fields.
- Identifying challenges early and recommending corrective actions.
Evaluation:
Evaluation measures the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of NRCRI’s programs. This involves:
- Assessing the outcomes and impacts of research on food security, farmer livelihoods, and agricultural productivity.
- Documenting lessons learned to improve future project design.
- Providing evidence-based reports to funding agencies, government bodies, and stakeholders.
Our Significance:
